I am a Physics Ph.D. candidate at Stanford University, affiliated with the Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology, and advised by Emmanuel Schaan, Staff Scientist at Stanford's SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. I will soon begin a postdoctoral position at the Institute of Astronomy, University of Cambridge, working with the groups of Anthony Challinor and Blake Sherwin. I previously completed my M.Sc. in Physics at the University of Chile under the supervision of Domenico Sapone, where I also earned my undergraduate degree.
My research interests scrutinize fundamental questions about our Universe: What is the physical origin and evolution of the cosmos? What astrophysical knowledge can be inferred from astronomical surveys? What are dark matter and dark energy? And more specifically, what can we learn from the cosmic microwave background (CMB) data when combining it with observations of the large-scale structure?
Besides science, I enjoy doing analog photography and scientific outreach. I am also deeply passionate about preserving dark skies.

Are you a cosmologist working in Chile, or Chilean cosmologist abroad?
I am leading an effort to connect and strengthen the community of Chilean astronomers and physicists working in cosmology. Please visit our website to learn more: https://sites.google.com/view/cosmology-in-chile/
About my name
My name is Bernardita, do not forget the second r! I realize some people write Berna_dita. You can call me Berni (sounds like Bernie in English!). You don't have to roll the r's, I will understand you are talking to me :)
I do have two last names or surnames, the first one inherited from my father's side and the second one from my mother's side, as traditionally done in many Latin American coutries. I do not use the double-barrelled surname, you will not find that in any of my work. Please do not assume Ried is a Middle name, cause I don't have one.
