The largest camera

It is hard not to feel tempted to photograph the laboratory that is creating the largest camera ever built. During my rotation as a first year PhD student in the Physics department I was working with the group who is developing the hardware of the Rubin Observatory's camera at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, made out of 3,200 Megapixels.

In the first image, I took a selfie in one of the largest filters in the world. In the others I portrayed Yousuke Utsumi, Staff Scientist.

This observatory will be located at the Cerro Tololo, in Chile, just a few kilometers were I spent my childhood and grew up dreaming of becoming an astronomer. Who would have guessed I accomplished that dream. More information at https://www.lsst.org/

I developed the film and printed a copies at the Harvey Milk Photo Center in San Francisco. Ilford 400 and 8x10 glossy RC paper.
